Enabling SSL for your email in Outlook 2016
How do I enable SSL in Outlook 2016?
You can edit your existing settings of your Standard or Advanced mailbox in Outlook 2016 to use SSL and it should take just a few minutes.

What will I need?
- A Mailbox setup in Microsoft Outlook 2016.
- Your mailbox username and password.
- Your ISP’s SMTP Server details (Standard Mailboxes only)
Step 1
Open Outlook 2016 on your computer and click the File menu in the top left corner.
Step 2
Ensure you have selected the email account that you want to add SSL to, then from the dropdown menu and select Account Settings.
Step 3
Ensure you have selected the email account that you want to add SSL to and click Change.
Step 4
Your account settings will appear, click More Settings in the bottom right of the window.
Step 5
Click the Advanced tab and change the following:
- Incoming Server: Enter 993 for IMAP – or enter 995 for POP.

- Use the following type of encrypted connection: Select SSL.
If you are using an Advanced mailbox use the following settings:
- Outgoing server (SMTP): Enter 465.

- Use the following type of encrypted connection: Select SSL.
If you are using a Standard mailbox you will need to contact your ISP (Broadband provider) for the outgoing settings to use.
Step 6
Click OK, then Next and Outlook will test the connection.
When the test is complete click Close, and then click Finish to close the wizard. Outlook 2016 is now configured to send and receive email through your mailbox
